Overview

PURPOSE & IMPACT:

 

The Packaging Developer role is an important role in the RDQ Packaging team, which requires experience in packaging development and technical project management to implement the agreed programs of work - Packaging Strategy (Innovation, Renovation, Sustainability, Value Creation) and the Segments and Clusters program.  Covering the breadth of the NPD process, innovation, renovations and maintenance activities in the Supply Unit and at Copackers (End State) -  as business priorities demand.  The ability to lead and manage complex packaging tasks and projects involving cross functional interaction is essential  in particular with the product Development teams as well as supply chain and quality teams.

 

We need someone who….

  • is able to collaboratively ‘share their voice’, having the confidence to work in cross functional teams, & being capable of working within a factory environment

A passion for packaging is essential and is required an element of work-related travel (e.g., other NF sites, Co-packers,  packaging & machinery suppliers etc) 

Responsibilities

Packaging technical project management of all types of projects at SUs (and Copackers – End State) in accordance with the agreed procedures to ensure successful and timely delivery of the projects

  • Represent RDQ packaging within cross-functional teams to deliver range extensions, renovations, innovations, PPA, Value Creation, Sustainability projects.
  • Provide technical knowledge to ensure all packaging executions in the allocated area are right first time, profitable, competitive, legal & meet brand requirements.
  • Lead all trials including writing briefs and reports (Line, Packing, Transit and storage trials)
  • Provide accurate technical data & complete packaging-related project documentation, including specifications, Packaging BOMS and pallet configurations
  • Ensure product approval process is completed (including actions identified) and responsibility transferred to SU & QA.
  • Works with project team and builds strong relationships across multiple functions.

Good knowledge of packaging materials, supply chains & manufacturing processes through close supplier & factory interaction

  • Ensure all products/prototypes used for consumer research are safe and representative.
  • Ensure all necessary trials are completed satisfactorily and documented, reference samples stored & risks communicated. Monitor costs of trials.
  • Ensure the appropriate post-trial testing programs are well considered & implemented successfully to enable correct recommendations are made in execution of projects.
  • Generate accurate technical data and provide all packaging related specifications giving input into Safety by Design, whilst ensuring packaging systems and materials are harmonised / efficiently managed wherever possible.

Build & maintain strong relationships with colleagues in RDQ & other functions (MU’s, SU’s, TQS, Procurement & Segments/Clusters Marketing)

  • Ensure smooth project management across the project team with close interaction with Regional & Category RDQ teams as required.
  • Encourages cross fertilisation of knowledge with wider RDQ colleagues
  • Take responsibility for self-development and exhibit Nomad cultural behaviours

Maintain compliance through specifications and Packaging CoP guidelines

 

Project Focused Development Path:

  • Split of SU/Cluster role and project lead, split to be agreed based on size and complexity of project (Innovation, Renovation, Sustainability,
  • Delivery of specific projects and support wider platforms of work 
  • Stretch opportunity for higher performing individuals APDMs with PDM aspirations

Expert Focused Development Path:

  • Stretch opportunity for higher performing individuals from existing APDMs with technical expertise aspirations
  • Building in materials expertise into productivity and design principles
  • Support on local packaging regulations understanding, research and implementation

Qualifications

  • Relevant Science Degree – eg Food Science, Materials Science, Engineering or 2+ years proven experience working in FMCG packaging development role
  • Basic understanding of Local packaging regulation and legal labelling is a strong benefit
  • Diploma in Packaging Technology, or equivalent is a strong benefit.
  • English speaking incl. technical language
  • Driving License
