  • Overview

    This key role is responsible for championing sensory as an input into product strategy across core categories and SKUs within Nomad Foods. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sensory science and be familiar with both consumer facing sensory work and sensory science methodology within a food product development setting. The role consists of working cross countries with some travel as needed, engaging with stakeholders across R&D, Insights, marketing and the wider business, interacting with team members from each of Nomad foods’ consumer facing brands.

    Offering team training, creating, aligning and rolling out ‘one way of working’ policies, stakeholder management and finding creative business focused sensory solutions will be essential to a successful delivery. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and comfortable working with a team spread across different countries.

    Responsibilities

    • To champion sensory testing as an input into product strategy across core categories and SKUs within Nomad Foods
    • Manage the local IT consumer connect facility – ensure the facility is well maintained and used appropriately
    • Maintain close links with the category teams to ensure that priorities are aligned and efforts focused in the right areas
    • Be the local key point of contact for sensory testing protocol and advise the category teams on correct methodology 
    • Train sensory best practice to the rest of the business
    • Lead internal benchmarking programs in partnership with consumer insights (and nutrition as appropriate) to understand how our products perform and give direction for product improvements in order to give competitive advantage
    • Ensure sensory results (drivers of liking) are translated into products that consumers love in cooperation with the Nomad Foods culinary team and within Nomad Nutrition Policy and 2025 CSR goals
    • Promote use of R&D consumer connects facilities across Nomad Foods
    • Use external partnerships to bring best in class thinking inside Nomad Foods and strengthen our internal capabilities
    • Drive culture change whereby sensory data guides product strategy
    • Build R&D capability by training in sensory testing in both the R&D and marketing teams. Be an expert in consumer qual able to train internal moderators.
    • On-site consumer connects (and kitchen) facilities are both well-maintained and safe environments to work and handle food. All local food handling and safety regulations adhered to.
    • End to end responsibility for in-market sensory testing, analysis of the results and translation into consumer approved product improvements
    • within commercial constraints
    • Ensure past results and updated one WoW processes are centrally stored and previous learnings shared with teams to prevent duplication of effort
    • Maintain competitive advantage on core products - report and monitor benchmarking results.
    • Protect product quality and signature attributes for core SKUs
    • Share sensory knowledge on core categories to R&D, insights and marketing communities. Make recommendations for product improvements and claims as part of product strategy thinking ensuring business mindset applied at all times.
    • Run training sessions on best practice sensory testing for all those involved in decision making

    Qualifications

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Relevant Sensory Science Expertise
    • Relevant Science Degree
    • Sensory experience within FMCG
    • Must be fluent in Italian and have very strong English skills

    Desirable

    • German or French language skills

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Strong sensory science background and thorough understanding of sensory science testing methodology and best practice
    • Able to convert sensory learnings into tangible take aways for development teams (product & pack) and help to build compelling consumer/ trade stories for other commercial functions
    • Consumer understanding application as part of consumer led design workstreams.
    • Sensory Data statistical analysis
    • Strong Presentation skills (Present and remote)
