  • Overview

    This role forms part of the recently up-weighted Net Revenue (“NRM”) team, responsible for strategy through to in-market implementation of a key growth enabler for Birds Eye. The team has responsibility for strategic pricing (including Pack Price Architecture), in-store promotional strategy and optimising Trade Terms investments with retail customers. Essentially, growing the revenue & profit pools for the Frozen categories in which Birds Eye operates and optimising Birds Eye share of it.

    Birds Eye UK is a £360m turnover business unit, the biggest and one of the most profitable in the NOMAD Foods Europe Group. The NRM team are accountable, supported by the Sales & Marketing teams, for improving price realisation, optimising trade spend and promotional effectiveness.

    The NRM programmes need to support the brand’s strategic direction, and be consistent with our key retailers’ strategies for growth. Success will be defined as NRM initiatives having a demonstrable and sustainable positive impact on the P&L of the business

    We are looking for an ambitions and talented individual to lead our commercial pack / price / promo strategies. You will be part of a 4 person cross-functional NRM team, whilst leveraging close working relationships with the Sales, Marketing and commercial Finance teams.

     

    Good career roadmaps exist for future moves into Sales, Finance, Category management or Marketing roles, in which success will rely on all strong commercial acumen, entrepreneurial flair and P&L / analytical firepower.

    Responsibilities

    NRM Strategic and Operational Plans

    Support the NRM team in the development of the 1-3 year Revenue Strategy and operational plans, generating short & longer term revenue initiatives that deliver against business, brand and customer targets (share, sales, profit, and sales/KG).


    Specifically this role is responsible for;


    NRM Analytics & Reporting

    • Work as central point to bring together all key NRM data from a wide data source, to support the build and evolution of NRM strategy and communications to the wider UK teams.

    NRM Insight and Tools

    • Populate a suite of NRM specific tools which will be the foundation of the NRM plan. Use the outputs with the NRM and wider teams to generate initial insight and directions, e.g. Profit pool, price curves & price ladders, 9 box margin & mix management grids.

    NRM Reporting & Dashboards

    • Establish management information and reporting solutions that provide visibility of progress versus NRM plan and KPIs, delivering regular updates to the UK board. Design the appropriate suite of reports that can guide the commercial teams and be used as the basis for financial targets and monthly sales NRM reporting to help budget owners feel and demonstrate real accountability for delivery.

    NRM Operational Plans

    • Building data and insight lead plans for the Enterprise (Bakery, Pies, Waffles) and Veg (Nat Veg & pulses, steam fresh) categories along with the newly acquired Goodfellas Pizza business and further M&A integration plan.

    Price

    • Building a clearly defined pricing strategy including optimal price plans based on a detailed understanding of; price elasticity, curves, ladders & consumer willingness to pay. Build an annual price change recommendations based in internal and external cost pressures and consumer insight.

    Promotional Plans

    • Set optimal promotional guidelines annually and refresh quarterly based on changing commercial and market conditions and post evaluation insight. Lead the promotional review forums & governance process across the business, driving continuous learnings and insight

    Pack strategy

    • Create a clear pack strategy linked to shopper behaviour, retailer priorities, and sku profitability, focused on right sizing the pack architecture to deliver shopper, retailer & revenue benefit.

    Mix

    • Design and Implement a mix management plan across the portfolio, focused on sku & customer profitability & prioritisation.
    • Drive Strategy into in-year Action and Course Correction
    • Ensure the commercial plans are executed with sound Net Revenue Management principles, governance and Ways of Working 
    • Build collaborative relationships with Sales, Marketing, Category Dev and Insights teams ensuring activation and continuous learning of NRM plans.
    • Use a suite of KPIs to partner the Sales and Marketing teams in the delivery of the NRM plans, holding yourself and others to account.
    • Support the front-line Sales teams with trade sell-ins relating to pack / price / promo initiatives. Lead the pro-active deployment where appropriate

    Qualifications

    Experience & Qualifications

     

    Education - Degree (2:1 minimum)

     

    Experience

    • 3+ years in commercial role (MS&P/NRM, sales, finance, category or similar) with P&L responsibility, with knowledge of pricing disciplines and tools (strategic pricing, promo, PPA)
    • Candidates from data & insights companies (e.g. IRI, Neilson) will also be considered
    • Sector - Blue Chip FMCG or Grocery Retail background

    • You will be well versed in the demands of a commercial / consumer environment and have a track record of delivering results. Using your strong commercial acumen and analytical skills, you'll be a strong communicator with a well-developed set of influencing skills

    Analytical & Problem Solving Skills

    • Ability to review complex data and identify key issues from a wide range of data sources and make clear recommendations to change the NRM & commercial plans
    • Experience using internal and external data set to generate insights and drive action

    Commercial Acumen & Decision Making

    • Strong understanding of the P&L, the factors driving this and ways to positively influence the commercial delivery
    • Ability to understand core commercial levers and how these effect decisions
    • Ability to act as a commercial consultant and decision maker across the wider business based on key analysis and data inputs

    Strategy & Planning 

    • An understanding of the core elements of the commercial planning process and ways to influences and build this
    • Ability to translate data & insight into action orientated plans and strategy
